Legacy Stories focuses on the preservation of oral histories and living memories. LegacyStories.org is a free living history library that provides life story learning, recording, archiving and sharing to families, professionals and groups.
Oral histories tell the stories of individuals and cultures, giving meaning and value to our experiences. Unfortunately, they are also fleeting . While listeners might remember the significant events of the story, the tone, gestures and atmosphere of the story cannot be captured and passed on to others.
However, with sound and video technologies we can preserve and share many transient aspects of the oral biography process. By capturing voice, expression , inflection, laughter, and many of the subtle qualities that give an oral biography added meaning, family, friends and future generations can get maximum benefit from the experiences and wisdom of those who share their stories.
